Cottrell Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone! We missed our family and friends but had a enjoyable time here in Korea. On the actually Thanksgiving day we went to the Bartlett's. We had good food and enjoyed having 4 Missionaries with us. It was neat to see the excitement of the 2 American Elders. They were so happy to have American food. I think the 2 Korean Elders thought we were all crazy. At one point one of the American Elders said "See Elder now you know how I feel everyday." We had our own little Thanksgiving the Saturday before. It was awesome, we love having our own little family. The turkey was actually tender and everyone was pleased. This picture above of Addy makes me laugh...."WHERE IS MY FOOD?" And of course Logan with his Korean peace sign.
Spencer always enjoys the legs.
We were all in cozy clothes. It was nice to be comfy. :-) Expandable waists are always a plus at Thanksgiving.

Spencer was so happy with the results.
The best part of our Thanksgiving was our homemade pies. I got this new pie crust recipe from Amanda and it was easy and delicious. The even better part was we ate pie before dinner. We couldn't resist. It was a good order we might have to do this every year.
Raspberry and Blackberry pie for Spencer.
Apple pie for Logan. Grandma Pauleen gave us this book called The Blueberry Pie Elf. It is really cute and makes you want pie. Logan the morning before Thanksgiving first words out of his mouth....
Logan: "Mom do we have apples?"
Mom: "Yes, why?"
Logan: "So we can make an apple pie. How many do we have?"
Mom: "I don't know."
Logan: "Okay, I will go check" (goes and checks) "5 apples mom is that enough?"
Mom: "Yes."
Logan: "Do we have a rolling pin, and an oven to put it in?"

It was so cute I had to make him his own apple pie.
Addysen was excited to help out.

I am so thankful for this opportunity to be in Korea. We are having so many wonderful experiences. It was a different Thanksgiving but one we will never forget. I do have to admit when my family stayed up until 2 am playing card games I was lonesome. :-) And the Cottrell family was all together. Those are the times when it is hard. It was so nice to have more time with Spencer and we have our Christmas decorations all up. I love this time of year. I love being together and making traditions and memories that last forever.

Puzzles No.5 & 6 & Counting....

Brother & Sister

Logan is getting big. He is so curious and interested in everything. His new thing lately is what does that start with? How do I spell that? It's so fun to see him growing and learning. He sure is my big helper around here.

Addy loves to talk. She is saying new words and also new phrases everyday.
Addy and Logan have a lot of fun together. Logan is enjoying her more everyday. He likes her being a little less breakable.......this hard wood floor makes me nervous. :-)
I am so THANKFUL to be a mommy. I couldn't ask for two better kids. I love them both. I am thankful that they are patient with me as we learn together. I love having brothers and a sister, I am hoping they grow up feeling the same way.

French Braid and More

I was able to do a french braid in Addysen's hair for the first time. I was so excited that she sat long enough for me to get it done.
This little girl is something else! She is a true pleasure.
Play dough fun.
Logan looks so handsome these days. The girls at school love him....he can't figure it out.
Grandma Dana sent Logan these to make and he had a blast. I know it is Thanksgiving and I am just barely putting this up....I'm a little slow.
Logan you are one lovable kid. When we went to Namsan Tower they had this huge bear he couldn't resist giving it a hug. I love you buddy!

Fall Fun

"Cheese"
Addysen wants to do anything and everything that Logan does. I think next year she will be crusin' on this scooter and Logan will need a bigger one. Anyone thinking of buying a scooter this one has been the BEST! It is a little different t,he handle bars don't do the turning the wheels in the front do, you lean to turn. We wondered at first how it would be but now I can tell you Logan is the fastest. He can go so fast and has so much control with this scooter. We get around so fast him riding that and me walking! No complaining about how much farther. It is a little more money but really worth it.
Addysen was playing peek a boo with Spencer hat. I love her little fingers.
I love her little fingers.
This was part of the on base October Columbus Day Celebrations. We had a parade, where the whole town was involved. One of the greatest things about base is it feels a bit like Logandale to me. It has that small town feel, you start to get to know everyone.
Logan and Addy both loved getting candy that they threw. Logan especially this must have been his first that he can remember.
The parade had a whole bunch of different military marching bands.
The leaves in Korea are huge! Logan thought it was pretty cool that it could cover his whole face.
We found this playground on base that we enjoy coming to. We meet friends every Thursday with a picnic and the kids play forever. I am going to miss coming when it gets so cold out.
Addysen loves going down the slide all by herself now. I can't believe how fast she is growing up.
The park is next to the Heli-pad and the soccer field with a track around the outside. So we get to enjoy soccer, playground, picnic lunch, friends, track, and helicopters every Thursday!
We are having so much fun in Korea. I feel so blessed to have a great place to live and be with my family. I love being a mom and making memories with my family. We have met so many nice people it is great!

Logan's Preschool Halloween Song & Dress Up

For any of you that might now know my child is a performer, he loves the attention. He is really good at singing and remembers words to songs super fast. He has a memory like Spencer and luckily the vocals too. Logan must take from me a little more of the outgoing personality. He just came home from school today saying "Kamora kissed me, but it's okay mom I wiped it off of my cheek".
Addysen loves going to school to see Logan and the other kids sing. This was what they did for dressing up on Halloween. The school dressed up the kids in all these costumes and they sang a cute song. Logan loves doing all the actions and having fun with music!
Addysen can't get enough hugs out of this kid. She always says "thank you" when she is done. Yes my child was the only one that bowed. The teacher taught them to do it and here he is. Ms. Jenny sure got a kick out of him.
Logan, we never have a dull moment with you around. Last Sunday was our Primary Program. Once every year the primary kids from church 3-12 years old put on the first hour of church. It is my favorite Sunday and Logan did so good with his lines. He had the longest part in his class and had it memorized after we went thru it one time. "When I get hurt my mom gives me a band aid and a hug. Hi, I'm in Sunbeams and I'm trying to be like Jesus."--he added the hi and up on the stand he said "oh wait a minute" after the hug sentence. He was really cute. He was reverent walking up to the stage signing "I Am A Child Of God". I was hopeful, then he sang a couple songs great, said his part.......and then his brain turned off. He was a monkey up there. Making faces, trying to get all the other kids to laugh. Being so crazy, acting like he was going to hang himself with his tie. Swinging his arms like a bird....you name it he was doing it. He was crazy. Spencer was holding me back. :-) I tried to remind myself if he wouldn't have been mine I probably would have been laughing and thinking he was so cute. So you might be able to guess we had a reverence Family Night on Monday! He is so fun.....drives me crazy and makes me laugh all at the same time.

Black hawk Up

Last week I had the opportunity to spend the day in a Black hawk helicopter making deliveries to some of the soldiers out here. I had never been close to a chopper let alone in one so I was really looking forward to the trip. We took off at around 10 am and made our way to a few installations up near the DMZ.

Along the way there was so much to see. we flew over cities, mountains and farms, sometimes our flying took us pretty close to the ground. Before going everyone had been warning me about motion sickness and I was told to be sure to bring a bag (just in case) but I found the flight to be pleasant and comfortable, I have been on airplanes with more turbulence.
We flew through several canyons banking turns and blowing the leafs off of the changing trees. The timing couldn't have been more perfect, Korea is beautiful in the fall.
The rice fields have all been harvested and the changing colors are great.
this picture gives you an idea of how low we were flying.
the distance we flew in four hours would have taken us a couple of days to drive even with no traffic on these rural roads.
Once landed, we got to meet some of the soldiers that spend over 6 months at these installations without ever leaving. At one of the places, the Chef was wonderful enough to prepare cookies for us and a roast beef lunch. I felt like I was at my mom's for Sunday dinner.
The pilots were great and went out of their way to make us comfortable.
At one of the installations we got to see a Korean historical site called, the kings bath. One of the Korean Kings of the three kingdoms period was banished up into the mountains and he had this bath built on a natural spring. Nearby are hill tops that were fiercely contested during the Korean war such as Pork chop hill. Korea is so small but has had so many battles and wars, it is hard to go anywhere that is not historical.
most of the installations had a dog for a pet, one place had 3 puppies, I wanted to take this one home with me.

I hope I get to go again someday.

All Dressed Up

Do you see Logan? I missed seeing him at first, he blends in. Thanks Grandma for those great light up sticks they were awesome.
We were wondering if on Halloween the rain would ever stop. The rain finally let up at about 5:30 and we went trick or treating...or how a friend called it treat or treating at 6:00 with our friends Ben & Angie. They have two little girls Lauren and Megan. Lauren was a cheeseburger and Logan would tell me that for her. She is kinda shy and Logan usually lacks that so he would help her out. At one point she said Logan could you say "Thank You two times one for me and one for you". So he did, it was pretty cute. I wish I would have taken the camera out with us so you could see the cute kids together, we all had fun time.

Addy found these chopsticks the other day and tried putting them in her hair. She was our cute china girl.

Seoul LDS Temple

It was so awesome to be able to go to the temple with Spencer in KOREA! I was so happy that we had this opportunity. Our District had a primary activity and then a nursery at the church right next to the temple, so that we could attend worry free. Thank you so much to all of those that put this activity together and helped with the children. It was fantastic, Logan and Addysen both had fun. BUT, I feel the most blessed because we were able to go and enjoy the spirit inside the temple. It was so inspiring and refreshing be there. I know that we are blessed when we set aside our earthly worries and enjoy life with an eternal perspective.
Temple work is so amazing and the blessings are real. I am thankful for so many great examples in my life who have taught me the importance of temples. I am so happy to KNOW that our family will be together for Eternity.
It is worth trying harder everyday! It was also special because Spencer hasn't been back to the Korean temple since he was here finishing his mission and went with his parents and sisters. Who would have ever thought that 10 years later he would bring me and his own family to Korea to live. We enjoyed our time together and hope to get to go again soon. It is amazing to me that even when we are clear around the world the church is true here and the SAME! I love it.

Puzzle No. 3 & Puzzle No. 4

So have we told you that we like Disney puzzles? These ones were the most challenging yet. Also, WE FOUND ANOTHER PUZZLE STORE!!! So I think we may be picking up some more on Veterans Day.
This one was all glittery, it kind of had a Christmas/Electric Light Parade feel.

Addy these days....

Addy gets up on this table and starts modeling for me. I wish it would have been better light but I think she is cute anyways. She is showing you her monkey.
Wish this was in focus more...man I am getting needy these days. She moves so fast and our little camera can't keep up with her. But man I love that face.
What does a monkey say?
She has been doing this pose lately and I can never get the camera fast enough. Once again blurry.. but you get the idea.
Spencer loves it when her hair is crazy, here it is blowing in the wind.
Addy giggles so hard when Daddy gets her.
I think this picture is priceless. I really like it when Addy gives hugs she is such a cuddle bug, when she wants to be :-).
Addy doing her kimchi squat. She is saying "CHEESE", she loves running around the soccer field picking up the cones.

Happy Halloween

Today is Halloween and we are sure excited to go out and get some treats. A couple of weeks ago we got our pumpkins and then we killed them and carved them up for family night this week. Addy and Logan sure had a blast painting theirs. I harvested all of the seeds for Amber and she made a great batch of roasted pumpkin seeds.
When we put the pumpkin down in front of Addy she hugged it and gave a witch-like cackle... pretty cute coming from her.
Here she is painting her design on its face. By the time she was done it was a big blob of purple. I think we will be finding it in all of her cracks and crevices for a while.
When I was on my mission in Pusan, we could not find any pumpkins so we got a squash and a watermelon and carved them up. We were really happy to find pumpkins at the commissary.
Logan was pretty fond of his pumpkin too.
really fond of it:)
Logan drew a face on one side of his pumpkin and his name on the other.
Getting the seeds out is tough work, Logan got his hands dirty helping me out.
mmmmmmm.... yummy!
First mostly smiling family pic in a while. Thanks to Ben for hooking us up with a tripod.
Here are the final products.
Now these are an entirely different story. We were invited to a costume party and we did not have a costume so we got creative. Amber got some sweats (from chancho) and a sheet and we hand drew, colored, cut-out, and pinned on the bones. It took us three late nights to get done. It was also the first time that we have ever paid a baby-sitter to watch the kids. What a blast. The Bartletts know how to throw a party, It was cool like a Turpin party. There were all sorts of props, and games and music, it was a blast. I think that our costumes turned out pretty good.
Thank you Tony for taking care of the kids and keeping my Xbox company:)

Locking our Love at Namsan Tower

Sorry for the long lull in posts, good news is, there is a lot to post, bad news is, who knows how long it will take to do:) So a few weeks ago we made the trek up to Namsan Tower. It was kind of fun to take Amber and the kids through the alleyways and streets, asking for directions along the way. Living near the base, even though we are in Korea, it doesn't really feel like it. Anyhow, at Namsan Tower we took part in a modern rite of passage. Here in Korea, soap operas or "dramas" are what it is all about. So in some drama a few years back the main couple took a couple of pad locks up to Namsan, wrote a message of their undying love for each other on it and fastened it to the chain link fence. Last of all they threw the key over the fence to symbolize the finality of the ordinance (for lack of a better term). So naturally the next day, everyone who watched the drama rushed up to the tower and copied the deed. Now a couple of years later, there is hardly a spot to put a lock. How could we resist leaving a token of our love Korean style... note the cool benches that are angled in a way that forces you to sit close to whomever you are with... very romantic in a cheezy way...
Addysen is still in her taste everything phase.... In case you were wondering how swine flue gets spread, I am pretty sure this could be one of the ways:)
So you can see the thousands if not millions of locks and some of them have entire novels written in small script, expressing deep personal feelings, everything from the "100 day" dating anniversary to one that we found of a daughter who came from the US in search of her birth mother, and having found her came and put a lock on the fence to mark the occasion.
Yup there is Addy again. Everywhere we go people are taking her picture and touching her hair. I took this one trying to be stealthy as to not freak out the unsuspecting adorer... really though, should I feel bad about taking a picture of somebody taking a picture of my kid?
So there is our lock, I had a hard time writing small enough so ours is short and mathmatical: Spencer + Amber = Logan & Addy... makes sense right?
So if you are ever in Seoul, I highly recommend this activity. Also if you are a Male and want to kill two birds with one stone, (I mean doing two cool things at one location) don't miss using the men's urinal at the top of the tower.
So in order to seal the deal, Logan held the "key of a thousand truths" over his head like He-Man at the castle Grey Skull, and in spite of all of the "do not throw your key" signs lobbed our key over the fence.
Here is the view from the base of the tower.

Logan does the monkey bars

video

Puzzle No.2

We decided that during our 8 hour conference marathon, it would be fun to try another puzzle... luckily we had bought two.
The only problem was that this one was wider than our table so... we had to improvise.
it took almost all of conference to finish. We had so much fun that we went back to Ipark to get another one and to our dismay, the puzzle store had gone out of business. What a bummer.
So here it is.... until we find another source:)

He likes to keep his fire engine clean...

Last week Logan's school got a special visit from the Yongsan Fire Department. The brought up one of their engines and gave each of the kids a chance to see it up close.
Here he is with his class, the one on the far right is Kimora, she has a thing for Logan and is always trying to get his attention.
Check out the vintage Star Wars shirt...
This is what pure happiness looks like. The boy loves trucks, he kept asking, "why isn't it red" that was his only disappointment.
Many of the kids were impatient and unruly but Logan was better behaved than he is at church, it was like he was trying to take it all in.
Each of the kids got a chance to turn on the fire hose.
Addy thought this was all pretty cool too.

Melts in your mouth...... and up your nose

So this is what it looks like when you lose a fight to the Cheeto tiger.... Logan was playing conference bingo with m & m's and I guess he got bored. We heard him crying so we looked over and to our horror, he had shoved an orange piece right up his nostril. I ran over and told him not to breathe in, then plugged his right nostril and told him to blow. Unfortunately I did not think to put something in front of his face to catch the technicolor explosion. Logan was pretty traumatized but it was all to good to miss, so I grabbed the camera.
So kids, don't try this at home:)

First Day of School Celebration

I know this is old news but I wanted to document this outing we had. After Logan first day of school we had a fun Family Night going to Burger King. It was great to get to tell Spencer all about Logan's first day of school. It made him feel really special so that made me happy. We might have to make this tradition.
My handsome boys.....love you both.

Cute Faces

I just can't resist these FACES!! I love them so much. I feel so blessed that they belong to me.
"KIMCHI"

National History Museum

I am behind.... a couple weeks ago we went with Hope and Taylor to the Korean National History Museum. The kids enjoyed walking around the museum but it sure is hard to walk and be so quiet. :-) They were pretending to be super heros and lifting up all the objects with their powers. It was fun to watch them entertain themselves. I think Logan's favorite part was riding his scooter to and from the museum. He had a great time racing Taylor and taking a break and watching cars.
These are the steps out in front of this beautiful building. I am excited to go back with Spencer, he will love it.

Samsung Children's Museum

My friend Hope her daughter Taylor, Logan, Addysen and me went to the Samsung Children's Museum. We took the subway and thanks to Hope being pro we made it there with no problems. Addysen loved, loved it!! She was so happy to be playing in the water. We have a lot of water fountains by our house but I never let her play in them. In Korea you never know where the water is coming from. So needless to say she was thrilled.
They had this one really cool building area that Logan and Taylor spent a hour playing with. It was like they were construction workers and Logan operated the crane and sent blocks up to Taylor on the second floor. It was neat I have to say the children's museum in New Mexico and Maryland was better.....but we had a great day out with friends. And yes this is the same friends that we went to the water park on the BUS with. I told her she was a brave woman. :-) Luckily no major moments on this outing.

This was the best picture I could get......which you can tell isn't good of all three of them they were just running around crazy. It was super fun and then of course on the way home on the Subways the DS came out.
At one point Logan was sitting in between two little old Grandmas and he kept showing them his game when he did good. They would smile (I think really enjoyed having him) and of course he loved the attention. I love that even when you don't speak the same language children have a way of breaking thru that barrier. The kids were even given candy from a lady. The Koreans are always giving the kids food, candy you name it. I love being here and having the opportunity to experience this life.

Starting to get excited for Halloween!

Today after church we started watching some Disney Halloween stuff. Here is what we covered today. Go ahead and watch if you want to get ready for the big day with us:)

The Korean War Memorial

Last week I worked shift (which was really tough) but as a reward, I got Monday off:) After spending 4 hours on skype with my family, first watching them enjoy a steak dinner then doing some long overdue catching up, we still had time for some sightseeing. We were going to go to Namsan Tower but the visibility was low due to light rain so we opted to see the nearby Korean War Memorial instead. I can't speak for Amber and the kids but to me it was fascinating.
The main building was closed because everything is closed on Mondays, but the grounds surrounding the museum are filled with weapons, planes, tanks, and even a submarine. Not to mention the beautiful monument.
Addy and Logan had a blast running up and down the cargo holds of the bombers, most of the planes had stairs leading up to open doors so you could go inside and see.
This plane dropped crates full of tank fuel.
Logan had a fun time looking at all of the sights.
Our little roaring tigers.
I don't know if you can tell in this picture but there is some pretty heavy bondo work on the turret of this tank, It was cool to think that many of these weapons of war, especially the North Korean ones, had seen action.
here is comrade Addy Jong-il giving on the spot guidance to an anti-aircraft battalion...
Logan is serious about aiming his turret...
I would hate to be at the other end of these babies...
A view to a kill...
The statues on the main monument were huge, the kids were hardly the size of the soldier's boot.
These days Logan is rarely seen without his scooter... sure beats walking.
We have now seen the monument to the Korean war in D.C. as well as the one in Seoul, there were only two similarities between the two (as far as I could tell) Both had the inscription reminding us that "Freedom is not Free" and both featured statues with very dramatic faces. The one in D.C. shows U.S. soldiers walking through a mine field which makes sense since from the perspective of a U.S. soldier, that is what the conflict may have meant. Fear of death and an unsure cause that was pulling them across a snowy field laden with deadly mines. Their faces were detailed in a way that really projected that fear and uncertainty. The faces on the various people depicted on the statues in Seoul also exuded emotion, but not of fear. There was anger, sadness, resolve and purpose that seemed to outweigh any fear.
The statues are made up of two groups of people pressing forward in a circular pattern. The description of the monument did not specify who was being represented, after making up my own mind on the matter it struck me as strange that the truth was not disclosed in the description. It felt kind of like looking at the graves of confederate soldiers laid to rest and honored at the national cemetery in Virginia. When facing the building, the group to the left was obviously made up of South Korean Solders and civilians, leading the pack was this strong figure grasping the edge of the Korean flag. He is flanked by another fierce character stretching forth his had as if to warn anybody who would dare get in the way of their advance. Following the leaders are various military folk, one of whom is holding an orphaned girl. He was followed by an older man with his traditional backpack full of his earthly belongings symbolizing the exodus of many to the South throughout the conflict. Next came the woman prostrate on the ground crying and reaching out as if she is begging her son or husband not to go. Lastly were a group of children with fists clenched and raised as if they are meeting someone at the flagpole to fight. I am not sure if this was to show that even the children were engrossed in the battle or if it was to portray the powers at war as children picking a fight.
On the right side the group of statues is fast on the trail of the boys at the end of the left group, (who seem unaware of the stone faced men coming their way). The description did not say so but it was clear to me that these were the brothers from the North. They have no banner to give them away but the emotionless face of the lead soldier betrays the intent of the sculptor. A man on a mission as if he is brainwashed into finishing a task given by a mystical general. Though he follows the South in the never ending circle, he is the aggressor, nothing in his face to denote a moral battle being fought between families, neighbors, fathers and sons or even a resolve to defend his home. He is a powerful puppet brought to life by an untouchable master. Behind him are fearless troops including a woman soldier, another clue pointing to the true identities of the ambiguous throng. Next came the one common player on both sides, the innocent who had now power but to run and attempt to dodge the pieces of their collapsing world. Last of all is a grown man who appears shirtless and in a martial arts stance seemingly anticipating the charge coming from the South. The War, as all wars, has over the years been politicized and those hoping to gain a foothold in the political arena have done their best to foresee hindsight so that they can invest themselves entirely in whichever viewpoint is popular and is seen as "right". One author likened the Korean war to a family feud, stating that only brothers who had loved each other so much could fight so brutally. Where are these brothers now?
It won't be long now and those who remember the war will all be gone.
The other main monument is called a tree of life as well as the Sword of Korea, depending on how you look at it, either way, the tree or the sword are both split and thus incomplete and useless in their function without the other half.
Who knows what the future holds but mark me down as one who would love to be around for unification. Part of me just wants to see those two old men go home together.

This is the North Korean Mig fighter used by a defector to fly to the South, it was cool to see the actual jet.

Logans first Soccer practice

Logan was so excited for Soccer! He was even more excited when he found out his teams color is RED.....and then he was handed the #4 shirt so that he thought was cool because he is 4!!
I have to admit that his first soccer practice was a shock to me. He was really hard on himself. Logan my happy Logan cried when he didn't make it into the goal every time! I feel so bad for him. I want him to have fun and enjoy learning. So we talked a lot about that after practice. As a parent I felt so bad for him and then I was feeling bad because I promise I don't beat the kid for not being the BEST and everything.....
He did super good and had a fun time. I hope this Saturday he will learn from watching the real soccer team play. He came home from going with Spencer and said "Mommy they didn't cry when they didn't get it in the goal." So glad he realized that.
He has a really nice coach "Mr. Ken", so we are so happy for 6 weeks of soccer. Here in Korea they don't actually play against other teams until next year. So we will be doing lots of drills and learning the basics.

funny beatles video

FC Seoul at the World Cup Stadium

Sunday after church, Logan and I met up with Ben and Lauren at the World Cup Stadium in Seoul to watch FC Seoul play Taejon. This is the first game that we have been to in Korea.
The stadium was huge and since there was not too many people there, we pretty much had our choice of seats. Logan's ticket was free and mine only cost $10.
The hard core fans set up behind one of the goals and were chanting and singing the entire game. FC Seoul won 3-0 and every time they scored, flares shot up from behind the goal, it was really fun to watch.
Logan just started soccer lessons last Saturday so I thought it would be fun for him to see what the pros look like.
They have a pretty sweet jersey, maybe I will have to pick a few up for the fam.
Here he is cheesing it up for the camera.

Saturday Outside Fun

Last Saturday we went to a field on base and played Frisbee, Soccer, Baseball, and Football. We had a great time enjoying the fall weather. Logan has his first Soccer practice today so that post will come later.
I am one lucky girl!
Logan had so much fun playing Soccer with Daddy.
I just happened to be trying to get a picture of Addysen when Logan biffed it big time!
It was a great day being outside. Spencer and I had so much fun playing Frisbee together it has been a long time since we did that. I felt like a little kid again. It was a blast enjoying the fresh air! I love this time of year.

I love them!

Last Sunday I thought my crew looked so good. Spencer for one thing you are a great dad. But man you are handsome for ME!! I love your eyes, thanks for loving me.
Addysen & Logan all ready for church. I love being a mommy, it's a hard job but the Best one ever.

Labor Day Weekend Bike Ride

On Labor Day Weekend we had a fun day outside. Spencer and Logan rode bikes and man I wish I could have with Addysen but we didn't have a helmet for her. Logan was having a blast being the star of the day! I don't think that anybody has ever seen a bike like this. They all waved and talked and thought Logan was the coolest kid ever...they are right! He loved all the attention and says "hello" in Korean and they love that.
Addysen and I walked and walked and walked.....she was happy to get out and run around. This is the Han river behind us, it has a trail all the way along it. I wish I knew how many miles we went a couple at least.
Addysen makes some funny faces! She loves her Daddy even though she teases him all the time.
This is us walking trying to meet up with our bikers. The picture of us is small but I thought it was cool to give you an idea of the bridge we crossed over. Fun times.
Logan had a whole photo shoot done before we met up with them. So even though I am behind on Labor Day Activities here you go!

"Oh Mama How pretty the Moon looks tonight"

One night we were sitting on the couch and out of the corner of my eye I saw this huge, pretty, moon. The song my Dad sings to Logan that his mom used to sing to him came to my mind, "Oh Mama How Pretty The MOON looks tonight....it was never so pretty before". Anyway Dad this is for you. It sure made me think of you and miss you. I have been feeling so very thankful for wonderful parents who taught and raised me well. This week especially been thinking of Dads?? I don't know why but I do know I have the best Dad in the world. Thanks Dad for always making me feel beautiful and loved. You have helped mold me and make me who I am today. I feel so blessed to have a Dad that loves my Mom so much and showed her that affection. I will always have those memories in my mind and how thankful I am for them. Thanks for always working hard and giving me the greatest life I could have ever asked for. I LOVE YOU!
Thanks to Ben for hooking us up with a great tripod Spencer was able to get these amazing pictures. I love where I live and I love who I live with.:-)

A little of this and that.

Sophie and Addy having a snack. Cute little girls!
Logan and his friends have a great time playing together. They are showing you that Logan turned 4 years old.
I love this picture of Logan using Addy as a foot rest. They are so cute together, I love watching them interact. She sure loves giving him loves.
We just love Addysen's hair all neat and all crazy!

I had to post this picture because I think she looks so cute. She is growing up so fast! I wish I could make the time stop but I can't so we are enjoying every moment.
Bern, Mom & Bri this is for you. Yes, this is Amber Asay Cottrell's house!! I had a few friends over for knitting and while the moms knitted and had a fantastic time the kids had a blast too. I had some ajida (BERN don't know how to spell it...) But I learned a great lesson this day and I am working on my OCD ness....The kids had a great time and it was okay my house was a mess because they had fun. No crying, lots of laughing from mommies and kids. It was neat at one point I thought I would slip away to just clean up fast and my sweet friend Kathryn said "Amber get in here!" She knew exactly what I was up to, what a wise woman.

I feel so blessed to live in the place I do because I get to have this play room. It really helped me in being able to shut the door and it is okay for a minute. This probably makes no sense to most but to me it is a huge step. I also learned it didn't take me that long to clean it up! I am just rambling but really it was a fantastic, fun day! I always love my clean house and that came just and the end of the day.

What was really cool I wish I would have taken a picture but after a day of knitting 3 of us stopped and pulled out ROCK BAND. You got it 3 woman playing Rock Band when Spencer came home from work. He was thrilled to hear us playing and having a great time. I'm sure in his mind he was wondering "What have you done with my wife?" :-)
Daddy time chillin' on the Love Sac. I sure love this crazies!
Logan & Addysen love playing with play dough. It is so great that she is getting big enough to play too. I love you both.

Good bye to Summer

I am sure Spencer will love me for posting this picture but he is awesome. He is such a fun dad! I enjoyed watching him and Logan dive off the diving board so many times. We will miss this.
Mommy took Logan & Addysen swimming a lot but it was always more fun when Daddy could come with us.
Logan diving to Daddy.
He wasn't even 4 yet in these pictures and he is so brave. I have a fish for a son.
Addysen always loved her food breaks. She enjoys the water a lot too. She puts her face in the water and tries to blow bubbles.
I love this swimming girl! Goodbye summer we will be excited for our hot, sunny days again next year. We had so much fun going to the pools and water parks. But now I am enjoying Korea's cooler weather and a season change. It is so refreshing once in a while I look around for those Utah mountains....Nope not here. Even though we aren't in Utah up in the canyon we are really liking Korea. We are making great friends and time is going by super fast!

Logan's FIRST day of PRESCHOOL

Logan was so excited to go to school! He was even more excited about his new shoes......

This was after his first day he was so happy! He loved preschool and was happy to show me his playground.
It was really shinny so I couldn't get them to both look at me but they are sure good friends.
Addysen was happy to see her brother. Logan starts school at 8:15 and we pick him up at 11:15. I have to admit it was really strange having him gone for that long. It made me a little sad to think that he will now be in school forever......he is getting big. my little buddy is growing up super fast.
It is pretty fun he has a little friend Joshua from church in his class so that is nice to have a familiar face.
Logan I am so proud of you! You did great on your first day of school. It is neat for me to watch him learn. It is amazing when I have been working with him for a long time and then it finally clicks. Maybe it helps hearing it from someone other than mommy.

When I was going to drop Logan off he said "Mommy are you coming with me to school?" "No buddy I am dropping you off...(before I could explain) this is what he said "But that means I am never going to see you or the CAR AGAIN!" How funny that this was the first thing on his mind...mommy and the car. Logan you must belong to your daddy!

I love you and we sure miss you during the day but I am so happy for you!

Addysen in Korea

Addysen & Mommy we are together a lot :-)
She thought it was super fun to play with the chopsticks.
Addy, loved reading books with Grandpa. She actually says his name "Grpapa" it is precious. She still talks about him every picture she sees and wants to talk to him on the phone. It is amazing to me that she really knows him and loves him.
She is checking herself out. Looking good sweet thing!
She was getting Uncle Judd! She harassed him like she does Logan. It was cute they sat together and played with blocks. He would also swing her upside down she loved it. We miss our buddy.
This is a picture I see almost daily. This girl loves books!! I will find her like this a lot and she will just be jabbering while she flips the pages. At night before bed she runs in to find which books she wants to read. Her little feet going pitter patter on the wood floors (I love the sound) and she brings me a book we read it and then she goes back for more. She would read all day long if I could.
We call this her kimchi squat. She is drinking strawberry milk she picks that or banana milk for her special treat.
How this girl loves her food and she knows what she wants. In Kore they have this red bag full of these Buggel looking chips. She gets so excited when she sees the bag.
Her favorite horsey ride....since Grandma Pauleen isn't here to give her one.
That smile I love!
You can imagine now our table we sit at while we enjoy our snacks on our walks.
Addysen loves to find her own little seats. Everywhere we went on our trip she would find her own step, or rock, ledge anything just the right size to sit on. Then she stands in front of it and backs up it is so funny.
Addysen meeting Judd for the first time. This was the day we picked Judd up and we went to a pretty Temple in Pusan.
Addy was born the year of the Rat.
Addysen brings a joy and happiness to this family that makes me smile just talking about her. She is something else. This girl has a strong spirit and a mind of her own. She is eating with a fork and spoon doing things all by herself. I think Logan would still love for me to feed him but not this one.

On our journey with my family my parents were able to see how much my children get mauled. Especially Addysen at one point when a man came and took Addy from my mom and was showing her off to all his family my Dad was going crazy. "He asked Judd when it was just too much?" The Korean people can't get enough of her. I think it must be bad luck for them if they don't touch her when they see her. She is very popular to say the least. My Dad even joked what would they think if I kept touching there babies hair, body etc. So I dared him and he tried it out he touched a cute little girls hair with maybe two fingers and they looked at us a little strange. Fun times and so many great memories.

Amber & Spencer in Korea

Here we are the parents of these two kiddos. It is so fun being with Spencer in Korea and seeing the beautiful country I have heard so much about. We are doing great and having fun together. We sure miss our family and friends we left behind but making the best of what we have.
Our little family....yes I was bummed this was the best family picture we have but it's better than nothing.
You might be getting sick of all our pictures and posts but it is so fun for me to have all these here for our own memories and journal purposes. Spencer I love you thanks for this great experience.

Our rainy Labor day

Last night we tried to brainstorm some ideas of what to do for Labor Day. Ultimately we decided to go and check out the aquarium at the Coex mall. Unfortunately after getting all ready to go to the subway, we went down to the first floor, and it was raining. Yeah... we are a bunch of pansies and decided that we would stay inside instead today. Well... most of the day... When we first arrived in Korea, one of our first outings was to the Ipark mall. At that time we saw this awesome little store full of puzzles. We fell in love with this puzzle but didn't buy it because at the time we were still in the hotel and I didn't want one more box to transfer from there to our apartment. Anyhow, today seemed like a perfect puzzle day. We went back down stairs to the car and went to the store and bought a couple of cool Disney puzzles. We got back to the apt and threw in a Disney movie, and then another, and another and before we knew it, we put all 1000 pieces together. So here it is!

More adventures with the Asays

Addysen loves to read books. This was on our plane ride to Cheju.
This sweet Mom and her daughters rented a van for us and took us all around Miryang. She was sweet and so good to all of us. We had a great time with them. Addy and Logan loved the little girls. It was so neat to see the love that the Korean people have for Elder Asay. I loved seeing him in his element. Judd did a great job on his mission and met so many wonderful people. It was amazing to me how fast I became attached to these families as well. I really care and worry about them already and I was only with them a short time. I can see how as a missionary you spend so much time... how hard it must be to leave. The nice Branch President and his family had us into his home for dinner.
Grace is so great! She really is awesome and it was fun to get to know her better. She speaks very good English so that made it nice and easy. She is so generous and has a big heart. It is so fun to know who Judd is talking about now. I love knowing her and hope to see her again sometime.
Logan loves Grace. He sat by her at the horse show. Addysen and Logan both loved the show and eyes were glued the entire time.
Oh how the memories flood back when I see these pictures. This young man is our "Green Shirt Friend" as Logan calls him. So Korean names are hard for me and Logan to say to he finally gave up and that is they name he gave him. Even the next time we saw him and he wasn't in his green shirt it just stuck. This was a Korean meal we really enjoyed, thank you Elder Peterson. :-)
We rode many, many, trains and subways while on our journeys. Mom & Dad helped a single mommy out a lot. The kids were both troopers but it was a lot for anyone. We sure did see beautiful country when we were on the train.
Yes proof for my husband that I did eat it, I tried it all. What an experience!
Elder Asay! What a great man you truly are.
Addysen's first time on the beach and the sun was going down way to fast. Logan and Addy were both sad we didn't get more time that first night on the beach.
We were so happy when Spencer was able to join us in Pusan the last night before heading to Cheju. We had a great night visiting and catching up. It is neat to have Judd & Spencer both speaking Korean and talking about the friends they love. We are so blessed. I am happy to have the family I do and to have had this chance to bond and grow closer together.
This great man is Brother Lee. Spencer loves this man so much. I have heard about him for 10 years and about his great family. It was a true pleasure to finally get to meet him and his sweet family. Judd will have to send me the picture of all of us together I didn't get one. He is so strong and is raising obedient, happy, fun kids. Addysen loved him and fell asleep on him for a long time. He wouldn't let any of us help him carry her he enjoyed it. Logan loved playing with his 3 boys and his sweet daughter below.
Shin-bi is wonderful.
Logan had a blast golfing in our apartment with Grandpa, Daddy and Judd. We need to get him a small club. It is really cool the balls come up automatically.
Good times family! Thanks again for the visit. We sure had a blast. OH I forgot to mention the other wonderful food we ate without being told......DOG!! Yes you read it right, Judd is still Judd. :-) We tried it and won't ever do that again. I promise if anyone ever comes to see us we wont trick you and feed it to you, like he did us.

Logan in Korea

Amber Posted:
In Miryang we went to a restaurant that was next to this pretty river. Logan was throwing rocks in the water and was so excited when he made a big splash!
By the Buddhist Temple was a river and Logan and his new friend had a blast getting wet. Logan said "It was Super Fun" ! I thought it was freezing, that didn't stop him from getting his whole body wet, clothes and all.
Logan in Namdaemun being crazy trying on the hats. How do I look?
Logan and Judd with Birthday cakes. It was fun we celebrated Logans birthday with Judds while they were here visiting. Logan thought it was so cool to get smarties on his cake. I can't believe that Logan is 4! He is a blast to have around.
I love this picture of Elder Asay "Uncle Judd" and Logan they are cute. I feel so blessed that we were able to have the time we did with Judd. It was great for my kids to get to know him better. I love that now Logan knows who Uncle Judd is and has fond memories with him.
This is outside our apartment and Logan loves to climb up on top of the tiny play place.
A close up and he is actually looking at the camera! Happy day.
He loves to ride his bike....what a stud! I love this kid.

Ryan LOOK HERE IS THE CROCODILE.
Logan copied Grandpa when he made a silly face. We laughed so hard. (Refer to previous post to see Allen making the same face.)
Happy birthday LOGAN!
What a kid? He is sporting his shades, and glasses in Cheju.
BRI, this was for you. He still remembers Bri's post about her touching the dolphins and feeding them.
What a pretty day on the Island we had a blast. We saw so many beautiful places.
SAND, SAND, SAND Logan could have spent three days just playing in the sand. We knew he loved water and now the sand too. Here he is making us some pancakes.
Pretending to be a dog.
I love this picture. Who knew places like this existed in KOREA? I sure didn't and I am enjoying them. The black sand...boy was he covered. This is the same beach we gathered all the shells and glass. It was fun for the adults to find treasures and fun for Logan to dig and roll in the sand.
Logan was born the year of the ROOSTER.

Allen, Dana, & Judd in Korea

Amber Posted:

Dad checking out the XXL shorts in Namdaemun, we all laughed because they weren't that big.
We ride our bikes to the 7 eleven and get banana milk and milkis. This is one of Logan's favorite activities to do so we had to take Grandma & Grandpa. Dad really loved this drink can you tell? Mom said it tasted like "dirty carbonated milk" (It's pretty good actually. :-))
Check out the little bananas in the tree......I think they made my Dad go bananas. We were hot can you tell? (Cheju)
I love this picture. Mom, Logan & Judd looking out over a river in Miryang, it was really pretty.
I wish I had Judd here to tell me what the name of the temple is but I don't. Anyhow we had a great time here and enjoyed its peaceful, quiet, beauty. I do know this was in Miryang.
Dad & Logan loved these swings outside a nice restaurant in Miryang.
Our traditional Korean meal in which we all had some firsts. Man did we have a lot of firsts on this trip with Judd. This meal is was RAW HAMBURGER......no we didn't know it all the time. Mom & Dad got pretty good with chopsticks. Dad does better with his left hand and he is right handed, so that was funny. He said "Judd taught me left handed".
Mom was the best with all the food she made up for me and Dad at times. If you can see there is a bowl in front of us it has little whole crabs that about pushed us over the edge when they brought it out. Luckily we didn't have to eat that. But everything else we gave it a try. I told Judd the lettuce on the right....tasted like celery, he said "That is what God does for you." :-)
Cheju oh how we miss you! Elder Asay, Mom & Dad in front of the falls. Good times, man these pictures sure make me miss them too.
Dad I think you look so handsome in this picture. This was such a gorgeous place on the island.
What a good looking couple. Thanks for your sacrifice to come and pick up Judd and see us. We loved having you all here. We have great memories and did so many fun things we really appreciate you both.
Judd, you will need to fill in for me but this was in Daegu and is the tallest Buddha pretty incredible. Korea is so pretty when you get out of the city. We walked a lot on this trip and we had so many stairs from this place. We wondered if it would be worth it and it sure was.
Mom you look cute with your cheesy grin. We love you all! Thanks again for coming to Korea.

A peek at our adventures thus far...

It is hard to believe that we have been here for almost three months. Yet in three months we have managed to fit in so many experiences, we still have a bunch of catching up to do, and at the rate we are going (going places and taking pictures) we have a long way to go. So... here for your viewing pleasure, are some random pictures that represent Korea to us. When Amber's parents were here visiting, they saw many of the places that Judd (the former Elder Asay) served and met many of his friends. We will post on the people soon, so keep tuned:)
Beautiful Miryang, I never served there but rode a train through many times, from the pictures, I can tell this is definitely a place that I want to see, I doubt Amber will put up a fight.
Here is some more of Miryang, I just noticed that we don't have any of the Kimcheon pictures, I will have to find them.
This picture is Seoul in a nutshell, people everywhere, all in a hurry. Sometimes you just have to sit back and wait for them to pass so you can get through.
This is Namdaemun market.
This is the Mongolian horse show we saw on Cheju island, it was very entertaining, and thanks to Judd's friend, Grace, we had excellent seats.
I will have to put up a video of this. We went to Cheju the same time that a typhoon swerved past us and hit Taiwan. The downside was, all of the beaches were closed to swimming (even though the waves were as small as ever). The plus side was these monstrous waves on the South side of the island which sent spray shooting hundreds of feet up the lava cliffs and over our heads, the sound of the concussion caused by the water hitting the wall was amazing, it made us all feel small.
Here is one of the other beaches we went to, below is where the famous Haenyo (diver women) have shop set up. We spent a few hours down there collecting sea glass while Logan played in the dirt.
Our first night in Cheju we watched the sun set on the North side of the island, it was magical.
Judd took us to several parks and gardens where the 'grandpa gods' were a common sight.
This is a detail of one of the ceilings at the Yongbok palace in Seoul, I love how detailed everything was.
Here you can see the roof tiles contrast on the hills behind the palace. Really beautiful country.
More of the Palace.
Logan and Addy fit right in:)

We will post more as soon as we can... with people in them, I promise.

Water Park & Bus Ride Adventures

Amber posted:

This might be more information than most of you want but for my mommy memories I want to write it down. Plus it was funny and pretty unbelievable for me.

Yesterday we went to a water park here in Korea with my new friend Hope and her two daughters Amber and Taylor. We took the 8:00 bus from Yongsan to get to Humphreys. It is a 2 hour bus ride and the kids did great. The water park was a blast. Logan loved everything and could have lived there all summer I wish we lived a little closer. Next year it will be something we do a lot. He dived off the diving board 6 times and after watching a little boy do a flip he tried it. Logan is so awesome he dove in 3 times did so good but the last flip attempt he landed flat on his back.....he was hurting from that. He went down the water slides so so many times. He really loves the water and loved spending all day there. Addysen was super cute splashing in the water and going down the slides with me. This is one of those trips I usually don't take alone and we wish Spencer could have come he is a fish too and would have loved it. It was sad to leave the water park but by 3:30 Logan was wasted he never would have admitted it but he was tired.

Now for the crazy times.....we all go potty before getting on the bus. 10 minutes into our 2 1/2 hour bus ride home Addy went potty a ton so I changed her. Then another 10 minutes go by and Addy "makes a snake" (This is Logan's term for going #2). So it is smelling up the whole bus I change her. Not long after I get Addysen situated Logan says "mommy I need to make a snake." I am dying, what do I do?? Buses don't wait for anyone or stop for anything. So I put a diaper on my 4 year old. He says mommy I am not a baby I can't do it. I am like, "Logan are you sure?? If you go in your pants we have no other clothes". We get him dressed again. Then 20 minutes pass and he says mommy I need to go potty I am thinking he has to go #2 or else I would have done the whole pee in a bottle but nope....I put a diaper back on. He is sitting on my lap half way and then I feel the warmth!! Now I am dying by this point because I know exactly what happened. The diaper couldn't hold it so now my leg is drenched and the bus seat...I clean him up luckily his clothes are still dry. Wipe him and he is dying, laughing, "Mommy I am not a baby." I was laughing too... I think to keep from crying. Hope had some paper towels and I used some wipes we got it all cleaned up. My wallet is wet and so am I and all I kept thinking was thank goodness he has had a lot of Gatorade to drink today cause it was diluted. :-) Then yes, it gets worse... or better depending on whether you are thinking of the situation or of the unforgettable story. More time passes and Logan says "mommy I have to make a snake I can't hold it anymore." Poor kid! So Hope says she has a bag. I then proceeded to put Logan's legs through the handles on each side and told him to hold up the front... I held up the back. The bus ride was crazy, and we were bouncing all over so just try to imagine me, my two kids one of whom is in the back of a bus trying to poop in a sack. I am holding him and he goes #2 then says mommy I need to go pee too.....so he does it the whole time I'm hoping this sack doesn't have any holes or else I will be wearing it AGAIN. Luckily there were no breaches and we did okay. I am so embarrassed to even be admitting this but that is what happened.

We finally arrived at Yongsan, which is about 10 minutes away from our home and Hope says, "WOW that was an eventful ride home... it sure helped time go fast." We both laughed about how nothing else could have gone wrong.....seconds later Hope's daughter Taylor (that just moved to sit with her mom) says, "Mommy I think I am going to throw up." Oh... I freaked out, and frantically began looking for a bag. I found one and opened it but before I could hand it to her she had vomited up the isle of the bus. Then another bunch in the bag. The smell in a closed up bus was horrific, you get my drift...we opened the windows while Hope wipes poor Taylor up and cleans the floor trying not to loose it herself. (She definitely deserves an award.) We were dying laughing seriously could it have gotten any worse. We were happy to have our feet on the ground and get home to bed! It was a fun, crazy day! Glad I had Hope there to laugh with me. (I promise none of the is exaggerated I wish we would have had a video camera on the whole time.)

Tell your friends about me

video
Logan turned 4 yesterday and has had a blast with his fun new toys. When Gma Dana and Gpa Allen were here, he had a party with uncle Judd, then a few days ago he got a card from Great Gma Cottrell, as well as a package from Aunt KR, Gma Pauleen and Gpa Court. Here is a little montage of him becoming Batman. He loved the presents and now the only trouble is convincing him to take it off for baths and bed. Thanks!

Do you know this boogie is for real?

video

So until we find a better way to upload videos to the blog, this will have to do. Unfortunately it is illegal in Korea to upload videos to sites such as youtube that don't require you to provide your real name and contact information. sooo.... just use your imagination to blow this up a bit bigger and enjoy:)

We are loving our new place and the little ones that live in it! Logan and Addy are so much fun! We have so many firsts to blog about with our adventures picking up Elder Judd Asay from his mission. I am going thru pictures right now but man we have tons so I thought this might be good to start with until I have them all organized.

Here are a couple of our apartment not complete but for those of you wondering what the inside looks like here is a sneak peek.

Kitchen Table Area/Office
One of our views looking out over the Han River and busy Korea.
Our Kitchen/Laundry room with the dryer hose I stick out the window when using it :-)
Logan and Addysens room
Our play room!!
Part of the master bathroom on the left is the shower.
Our Family Room with a cool enclosed balcony the kids love to play on.
Addysen loves her food. This isn't the best picture but I love it showing off Addys cute flip flops from Uncle David and her begging Logan for food a pretty normal happening at our house.Logan loves to swim we have done a lot of swimming this year. On base there is a really nice pool with a slide and diving board. It has been hard to get pictures when I go with the kids alone but we will get some. Logan is enjoying the new bathtub.
This is to show how we sure did have some long days. Never have I ever had a child fall asleep on the couch. Here is a first.
Logan trying to unwind from a crazy day.
I love these next pictures. Addysen loves to bite noses of those she loves. It is her way of showing her love. They are great friends and I am so happy to belong to them!
That little face man she is something else.
My pretty little girl.
I always want to remember those chubby little fingers. She is so independant and never lets me feed her. She is using a fork these days......but for my sake those cute fingers.
We were sad to miss Uncle Davids wedding, and are so excited for our new addition to the family. Happy to get to pick up Uncle Judd from his mission in Pusan. Life is good for us in Korea we are trying to enjoy every moment. Spencer is working hard and I am so proud of him. I am having fun with Logan and Addysen, making new friends and missing our friends and family we left behind. We love and miss you all!

Chillin

Korea is hot! We all have our own ways of dealing with it. Here is Addy's...

Now that is how you stay cool in Korea!
